Dani Grieveson's Top Tips to Boost Employee Wellbeing

As someone who’s had the privilege of working with some of the most esteemed and forward-thinking organisations - Deloitte, Bentley Motors, The Estée Lauder Companies Inc - there’s one universal truth I’ve seen time and again: when people feel great, they do great work.

Wellbeing isn’t a “nice to have” anymore; it’s the foundation of productivity, creativity, and retention. Yet, many leaders struggle to move beyond surface-level perks and create a culture where wellbeing thrives. If you’re serious about supporting your team’s health and happiness (and reaping the results of an energised, motivated workforce), here are my top tips:

1. Go beyond “work-life balance”

The phrase "work-life balance" gets thrown around a lot, but let’s get real - it’s outdated. Work and life aren’t separate; they’re intertwined. Instead of focusing on balance, aim for work-life harmony.

  1. Encourage flexibility where it makes sense - remote working options, flexible hours, or even just giving people autonomy to manage their time.

  2. Lead by example: If you’re emailing at midnight, guess what your team will feel pressured to do? Show them it’s okay to step away and recharge.

2. Create space for mental health

In a world of relentless deadlines and expectations, mental health is often sidelined. That’s a mistake. Employees who feel supported emotionally are far more likely to be engaged and loyal.

  1. Normalise conversations around mental health. Share resources, offer mental health understanding, or run awareness sessions.

  2. Train managers to spot signs of burnout or stress and approach these conversations with care.

  3. Invest in meaningful support: Think therapy, coaching, or access to wellness apps - not just a “wellness week” with fruit bowls.

3. Develop connection and community

Isolation is a productivity killer. Humans thrive when they feel connected to others. As a leader, your role is to build bridges.

  1. Create opportunities for collaboration and camaraderie - whether it’s team-building activities, virtual and informal chats, or even a strengths-based session to better understand each other’s unique value.

  2. Celebrate wins together, big or small. Recognition fuels connection.

4. Encourage movement and energy

Energy isn’t just about mental wellbeing - it’s physical, too. Sitting at a desk all day? A recipe for sluggishness.

  1. Make movement part of your culture. Team stretch breaks, step challenges, or even standing meetings can inject energy into the day.

  2. Design spaces that energise. Bright, open areas with natural light can have a surprising impact on mood and motivation.

5. Don’t overlook meaning

This one is huge. People need to feel that their work matters. When employees can connect their daily tasks to a bigger picture, they’re more likely to stay engaged and motivated.

  1. Share the “why” behind decisions and goals. Help your team see how their work contributes to the organisation’s mission.

  2. Highlight the impact your organisation is making - whether it’s innovation, sustainability, or customer impact - and tie it back to their roles.

6. Make wellbeing a leadership priority

Your people will only prioritise wellbeing if you do. It starts at the top.

  1. Regularly check in with your team - not just on what they’re doing, but how they’re feeling.

  2. Show vulnerability. Share how you manage your own wellbeing (or how you’re learning to). It makes you relatable and approachable.

Wellbeing = Business Wins

When you prioritise wellbeing, the ripple effect is enormous:

  1. Higher engagement: People who feel good give their best.

  2. Stronger retention: A healthy, happy culture keeps your best talent.

  3. Better performance: Wellbeing fuels creativity, focus, and energy.

Investing in your team’s wellbeing isn’t just about being a “nice boss”; it’s about building a workplace where people want to stay and grow.

If you’re ready to transform your organisation’s approach to wellbeing and see the real, lasting benefits, let’s talk. Together, we can build a thriving culture that energises and uplifts everyone.

Because when your people dazzle, your results do too.
